“I have always been drawn to the beauty of nature, especially wildlife and florals. The combination of suede board and oil-based colored pencils enables me to achieve an expressive contrast of color as well as the sensation of softness.
When working on a wildlife portrait, I start with the eyes. Traditionally understood to be the “windows to the soul,” the eyes are the key element of a successful composition. Only after it feels as the though the subject is staring back at you can I proceed with the remainder of the work.
I began my artistic career working with acrylic on canvas, but have since gravitated to working with colored pencil and graphite. I’m always in search of new subjects. I find myself most relaxed and happy when sitting at my art table producing something with great color, contrast and softness.”
