About Michael

Whether inspired by a dream or the story of second century martyrs, Michael Coleman spends hours, or sometimes years, taking a very scholarly approach to his work. Bridging the spiritual and physical realms–or portraying the mind and soul of man–are not tasks for the faint of heart.

“For the past 45 years, I have searched for Truth, Light and Beauty in my Art,” Michael says. “My hope is that the viewer will become involved in the complexity of the artwork… will contemplate and find meaning through the eyes of their own experiences.”

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Michael Coleman has studied and created art his entire life. He completed his Bachelor of Fine Arts at Louisiana Tech University in 1985 and worked for many years as an illustrator and graphic designer while developing his style of painting over nights and weekends. Michael’s search for the perfect light eventually took him to Albuquerque, where he worked with a company creating murals, 3-dimensional art, graphics, interior and exterior faux finishes, signage, and carpentry for clients in Albuquerque, Chicago, Las Vegas Shreveport, and Memphis.

Mike has taught fundamentals of art, drawing, painting, ceramics, pottery, jewelry, sculpture, fine art matting and framing, art education, and art history at high schools, community colleges, and universities in New Mexico and now back in Kansas City.

An internationally acclaimed artist in Fantastic Realism and Visionary Art, Mike is a juried member of the Canadian and the American branches of the Society for Art of Imagination and continues to create works for international competition.
